The Impractical Joke of Laughter
Why you should watch Impractical Jokers

Many had thought the highly raved about comedic reality TV show was finished making new episodes because of how popular the four hosts had become. Unexpectedly airing on February 9th, 2017,  their hilarious show made a huge comeback and is planned to air 26 episodes entirely. Assuming you've never seen the show, It is a reality TV show about four lifelong friends who compete to embarrass each other. The basis of the show is four friends take turns competing in challenges in which each three watch and feed directions through an earpiece to one unlucky friend and watch as they have to do whatever the other three say or they lose the challenge. Whoever has the most amount of losses at the end of the show is declared the nights 'big loser' and is subjected to an extremely hilarious and embarrassing situation.

The main purpose of the show is to entertain and the hosts (Joe, Sal, Murr, And Q) have even said on multiple occasions how the show is much more of a performance to them than just a raw interaction. That being said it makes you wonder how much of this show is reality TV and how much is a comedic performance. Regardless the show is still hilarious and in less than one episode of watching, you will be hooked. The show follows a pretty simple formula of each episode starting out by showing a preview of what's to come and shows some of the more dramatic or comedic moments in the episode, instantly trying to get you sucked in and watching the whole episode. One after another, each one of the guys takes turns attempting to complete the challenge assigned to them. In doing so the other three guys can make their input wherever they see fit to make the other person do the most embarrassing things. It's all for a good laugh and they really highlight the aspect of friendship that they share and it's easy to find yourself relating your own lifelong friends to the show.

If you have not seen the show, these four seemingly ordinary guys might at first seem cringeworthy or immature but after just one episode you can easily see their intelligence and their ability to improvise their way out of an embarrassing situation is actually quite impressive. It really doesn't make sense that this would be such a highly recommended show since there aren't any A-list celebrities or big time directors to bring in that initial brand to the show. That being said it really goes to show how many people find the authentic reactions of both the comedians and the public a hilarious and engaging environment where they almost feel invited into these four guys' friendship.

As June Deery explains in her book Reality TV, she talks about how reality TV is shaped and how the show implements elements to add comedic effect where intended and create a better product without necessarily giving straight instructions for the direction of the show. Impractical Jokers is really good with this because one of the guys is sent out into the streets with an earpiece, while the other three watch from afar and flood the one friend's ear with challenges which improve the quality of the show by giving it a much more real aspect of filming. The real element of the show makes it that much more entertaining and suspenseful in parts of extreme desperation which make me as a viewer want to watch more and more of these hilarious and embarrassing situations each week. In one of the episodes that I watched the guys would pair up and have to present a powerpoint created by the other pair of guys to a class about internet marketing. They have no idea what is going to be on the powerpoint and whatever shows up they have to try and explain their way out of it. It's
hilarious and under the surface is just one of the many shaping tools the directors/actors use in making the show.

If you're not already convinced to watch one of the most highly rated shows on cable TV then my question for you is, do you like to laugh? Laughing has been proven to be good for the mind and essential when creating strong and forever lasting bonds and friendships between people. I can honestly say one of my favorite past times is watching this show with some of my closest friends. You can easily start to relate yourself and your friends to the group of guys you're watching. All of their experiences and the awkward situations they put their friends through make you think of all of the embarrassing and funny moments you might have had with your best friends.

At the end of the day, the show is all for a good laugh and is not intended to be taken seriously by anyone. Reality TV takes many shapes and forms and is not a set path of how it is produced. Whether or not you enjoy reality TV, Impractical Jokers will certainly at the least peak your interest and give you a laugh no matter who you are.
